Sleep Out Brunswick is an experience like none other. Know what it’s like to have to sleep outside in a tent, cardboard box or in your car. And get an idea of what it’s like to live in poverty. At the same time, you will support Brunswick Partnership for Housing as it advocates for affordable housing and provides transitional housing for families working to transform their lives.
Have questions? Here are some key FAQs.
What are the goals for Sleep Out Brunswick?
There are two main goals for this Brunswick County-wide event:
To provide participants with an awareness of what homelessness
can feel like
To raise funds to continue to provide services and transitional housing
How do I get involved?
You can get involved in Sleep Out Brunswick in several ways:
Participate
Sponsor
Donate
Volunteer
As a participant, you can register as an individual or a team. Registration begins Monday, Aug. 5. Invite your family, friends or groups to participate. Or, you can be a sponsor, volunteer or make a donation to a team member or individual.
Where do we sleep out?
The main event will be held at the Cape Fear Regional Jetport, 4015 Airport Rd, Southport NC, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. through Oct. 26 ending no later than 10 a.m.
Or, you may choose to have your own sleepout on a date and location between Sept. 25 and Oct. 25. You can register online as an individual or a team at starting Aug. 5 by clicking the “Register & Donate” button above. You may choose to sleep in your car, driveway or yard. A church youth group, for example, may get together and sleep on church property (if the church is participating).
Online, you can designate if you are a team or individual and if you’re sleeping out at the main event or choosing your own date and location. Just follow the prompts. And, as you raise funds, your donors can go directly online to donate on your personal fundraising page.
How do I sign up?
Click the “Register & Donate” button above, then click on “Join or form a team.” Then you can click on “Join an existing team” or “Create your own team.” If you are an individual participant, you sign up the same way. Here you will click on your fundraising goal and then click, “Join this fundraiser.”
For off-site participants, you must let us know you’ll be offsite by naming your team this way: “Team your team name (off-site),” such as Team Jerry (off-site). Please do this if you are a “team” or “individual.”
If you are the team leader, you may want to add text to “Story” that says something like:
“We are excited to hold an off-site fundraiser. It will be held on DATE starting at 4 p.m. and ending by 10 a.m. The address is ADDRESS, CONTACT EMAIL AND PHONE.” Then include other details you’d like your team to know.
What is my fundraising responsibility?
We encourage everyone to set their fundraising goal high. We ask that each sleep-out participant set a goal of at least $1,500. Start with an ask of $150. That’s about $10 an hour for each hour you’re sleeping out. Of course all donation levels are greatly appreciated.
