Hagood Homes Presents Sleep Out Brunswick

It’s a sleepout, it’s a fundraiser. It’s a Poverty Simulation© sponsored by Novant Health.

And, 10% of net proceeds will support American Fish Co. and Frying Pan employees. “They have given generously to BPH over the years. Now it’s our turn to help workers who may need assistance in this difficult time,” said Barry Fulton, board chair.

Sleep Out Brunswick has two main goals:  create awareness of what homelessness could feel like and raise funds for services and transitional housing in Brunswick County.

The main event is Fri., Oct. 24 at 4 p.m.- Sat., Oct. 25 ending by 7 a.m. at Brunswick Community College in Bolivia NC. Spend the night safely in tents, cardboard boxes or cars and raise donations by doing so. Sign up at brunswickpartnership.org/SleepOutBrunswick. Simply click on the bar at the top of the home page. Click “Register & Donate, scroll to “Join or Form a Team,” click on “Join a Team” or “Create Your Own Team.”  Follow the prompts. If you have trouble, call Susan Crabtree at 267-235-6132 or email at susan-crabtree@hotmail.com for help.

Busy Oct. 24?  No problem.  Choose your own date and sleep offsite between now and Oct. 24.  Gather friends, neighbors, church youth groups, a club or organization and sleep in the driveway, back yard, or church parking lot, for example.  If sleeping outside isn’t possible, sleep on the floor or couch – just not a comfy bed.

On-site participants will experience the Poverty Simulation© … feel what it’s like to be homeless and in poverty. It’s a profound and moving guided experience.

Both on-site and off-site participants must register.  See the detailed tool kits including frequently asked questions and fundraising tips.

“At AT&T, we are committed to supporting local communities and organizations like the Brunswick Partnership for Housing who are making a difference in the lives of so many North Carolinians,” said Joey Nelson, Regional Director of External Affairs, AT&T North Carolina.  “We are proud to work alongside BPH to help them achieve their mission of providing safe, affordable housing in Brunswick County.”
